Think the TikTok train has left without you? Don't worry: there's still a seat waiting! With over 1 billion passengers, this social media powerhouse is full of opportunities for influencers.
If your goal is to create high-quality content that will resonate with your audience, you need to understand the fundamentals of the app. Enter content dimensions. Keep reading for all the details!

What are Content Dimensions?
We've covered content dimensions extensively in our full breakdown of Instagram dimensions article. If you haven't read that already, make sure to do so here.
But to summarize, dimensions refer to two things, aspect ratio, and image size.
The aspect ratio is the picture's width in relation to its height. This is expressed with two numbers: the first representing width and the second height. A simple example of this would be 1:1. Here, the image would be square as the width and height are exactly the same.
Image size is the number of pixels that make up the width and height of the photo or video. This is also written with two numbers, the first representing width and the second representing height (see a pattern here?). An example of this would be 1080px by 1080px.
You want your aspect ratio and image size to work together for optimal quality to create a beautiful image. If the dimensions are off, your video may look grainy or stretched.
Ideal TikTok Video Dimensions
TikTok content dimensions are pretty easy to learn and master. TikTok is set up for videos to be filmed and viewed vertically.
You want your content filmed with an aspect ratio of 9:16 and an image size of 1080px by 1920 px. These dimensions ensure that your video can easily be viewed on any device.
Most phones are preset to record with these dimensions anyway, so you probably don't even need to worry about it.
If for whatever reason, you need to resize video content to fit better on TikTok, websites like Kapwing and Clideo are great easy ways to do so without compromising the overall quality.
TikTok File Size and Type
TikTok can obviously be used by both Android and iOS users, but the video file size limit varies.
When uploading from an Android, TikTok allows videos up to 72 MB. But for Apple users, the limit is about 4x that coming in at a whopping 287.6 MB. Call it a coincidence or favoritism, but it is what it is.
As far as video file types are concerned, TikTok is compatible with both MOV and MP4 formats, both of which are easily accessible.
This all may feel like basic information, but if you want to grow as a creator, you need to have your bases covered. If you overlook "small" things like dimensions, you can't expect to produce content worth viewing.
Final Thoughts
TikTok is an incredible platform. If you want to significantly grow your online presence, you need to take advantage of it. The app has exploded in popularity over the past few years and looks like it will be around for a while.
Start uploading those high-quality videos today! And when you do, make sure they fit the correct dimensions so your content looks great on every screen.
