Have you ever seen an IG Reel and thought, "I wish I could do that?" Well, guess what? You can! With the help of a few simple templates, you can create save-worthy Reels in no time. Creating a consistent look and feel for your account can be a lot of work.
Templates can help you streamline the process and create a cohesive look for your account. In this post, we'll show you how to use Instagram templates to create polished reels that impress your followers. Stay tuned!

What are Templates?
In 2022, Instagram released an update that lets creators streamline their Reel creation.
Think of Instagram templates as the framework for your next Reel. They have preset times for video and audio syncing and allow you to select a video clip and go.
Instead of sitting for hours getting the timing juuuuust right on your Reel, Templates do the hard work for you.
What do Templates include?
Templates have everything preset for you. And we're talking everything minus the content:
- The number of frames.
- Duration of each frame.
- Specific transitions between your photos or videos.
- Music or audio.
Literally, the only thing you have to do is select the right clips.
Getting template access
To access this feature, ensure you have the latest version of Instagram. You can update the app in your phone settings.
Once you do this, if you still do not have access, don’t get discouraged. The feature should reach your region soon!
Using Reel Templates
There are two ways of using Reel templates.
- Using the templates featured in the Video Editor.
- Using templates from existing Reels you find.
Let's talk through both options.
1. Templates from the Video Editor
Click on the Reels tab, go to the camera button, and slide the bar at the bottom of your screen to Templates.
Scroll through all the Templates until you find one you love, and that fits the concept you want to create.
Click Use Template; from here, you will be prompted to upload videos/photos as needed for that particular template.
And that’s all you have to do on your end… so simple, right?!

2. Using Reels as Templates
The other option you have to find templates you love is to search for Reels within your niche or analyze viral videos.
Note that not all Reels can be used this way.
If a Reel is usable as a template, you will see a Use Template icon above the creator's name in the bottom left corner.
You can also click on the three dots in the bottom-right corner. If the Reel can be used as a Template, you will again see the Use Template icon.

From here, you can add your videos to the Reel template.
Benefits of Templates
It’s a win-win for you and the platform. Templates greatly benefit Instagram by encouraging creators to use the app for their entire creative process. No need to use a third-party app when video editing is so effortless within Instagram itself. Reel Templates are truly a game changer for content creation. With all of that spare time, you can focus on creating content for your next engaging Reel. So what are you waiting for? Go find a high-performing Reel template today and use it in your next post!
